I got tagged by Jamie for this book meme - it was fun and made me think.
1) Total books owned, ever: That's a tough one. I would put the count that I currently own at about 400. That doesn't include my husband or children's books. There are a lot more if I count them! I read voraciously, but most of my current reads come through the public library. I pruned a lot before we made the move here, and I still have a few boxes of books, so I don't know for sure. I'll just say ever owned - probably 2,000.
2) Last book I bought: The Jane Austen Book Club. It was recommended by a friend, but I'm not sure I liked it. And then I feel guilty because I've never ever finished Persuasion.
3) Last book I read: Finished? The Jane Austen Book Club. Currently reading the Boy Scout Handbook to see if I can understand what my son is doing in Boy Scouts, and re-reading Boundaries, and re-reading a Dee Henderson book and re-reading The Man, and re-reading Mothering your Nursing Toddler, and you get the picture, I'm sure.
4) Five books that mean a lot to me.
- The Holy Bible. Of the books in the Bible - Phillippians and Romans. And 2nd Corinthians. And 1st Corinthians. And Nehemiah. And the whole thing actually. It's just the best book ever.
- More than a Carpenter, by Josh McDowell. I still remember the first time I read it. I was 19 and thinking about this whole faith thing. I had moved to a position where I believed that there truly had to be God, but Jesus? A friend gave me a copy of this book, and I read it. Three times in a row. The big thing I remember was when he talked about C.S. Lewis' words about Jesus. And I realized then that I had to decide - was Jesus the Lord, a liar, or a lunatic? Once I decided that, the rest followed pretty quickly. I've been a follower of Christ for more than half of my lifetime now.
- Reflections on the Psalms, by C.S. Lewis. I've read a few of Lewis' books, but I have re-read this one several times. Why? It helps me.
- Boundaries, by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. I am currently re-reading this. It changed the way I perceive certain relationships in my life - and taught me how to say no.
- and tied for 5th -5a) Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. This was the first "classic" literature that I ever read and loved. It opened a whole new world to me. I have to buy a new copy soon - mine is literally falling apart. and 5b) Lord of the Rings trilogy. I could re-read this trilogy over and over and over and over again - oh, yes, I have. I have a stuffed tiger that I named Precious. He looks like Hobbes in Calvin and Hobbes, but I had just read this trilogy for the first time, and I named him Precious.
5) Tag five people: Well, this is impossible for me - I'm so new! If you'd like to be tagged, let me know in the comments - I have 3 "taggings" left for this meme!
For now, I'm tagging Rob and Maggie - Enjoy!
Edited to add a new tagging - TulipGirl - thanks for letting me tag you!
