I think I like this Friday tradition. I could call it vol. 3, since it's my third time, but since I doubt I'll follow through and do it every Friday, I'll just call it by date. For the home of Seven Quick Takes and more of them, go here.

NIna is doing pretty well with the loss of her pet degu, though she asked me to keep saying "Feed THEM" instead of "Feed HER", when I remind her to feed Josie. She says it makes her sad to hear HER instead of THEM. Here is a link about
degus, and here is a picture of Tanya. I think. It might be Josie.

My mom is recovering from her gallbladder surgery on Monday. She's sore and tired, and resting a lot. But the recovery is going very smoothly and will hopefully continue that way. I found out that her mom had her gallbladder out at some point for gallstones. This means that my maternal grandmother, my mother, my mom's sister, and my sister have all had their gallbladders out. So if I start having those kinds of symptoms, I'll know what to say to the doctor.

I'm still not entirely well. But I'm improving. I hate getting these viral things. They are NOT fun. But it's not the flu, and I'm alive and feeling better each day.

R brought me the bunch of bananas from the kitchen counter yesterday. He handed me the bananas. I held them and just looked at him. He looked at me, made eye contact, and quite emphatically said "Nana." YEAH.

I took Nina to the dentist yesterday. She has a baby tooth that was hurting a LOT, but it wasn't loose. Last fall, when they took x-rays, they could see that this tooth and its partner (the matching one on the other side) both had one root dissolved, and the other root still completely there. And the permanent teeth were waiting to come up. We were told at that point to watch it, and that it might not be able to come out if that root didn't dissolve.
But after the dentist checked it, he decided to take an xray to see what was up with it. The good news is that the root dissolved, so there is nothing holding the tooth down. The bad news is that the tooth is being held in by the two permanent teeth in front and back of it. He gave Nina the option of having it pulled by him yesterday (with numbing stuff), or trying to wiggle it out side to side. She decided that she would prefer to wiggle it side to side. It hurts to try to wiggle it, but it's getting looser.
I think I would have preferred to just get it out. A little bit of pain and ALL DONE. Instead, she's going to be hurting a little bit over and over again. But she has never had any work done on her teeth (yeah!) and was freaked out about the numbing thing. And I don't blame her. So I'm praying the tooth will come out pronto.

A friend came over last night to deliver some papers that we need, and R simply adored him. He came up to him and looked straight into his face and then he laughed in delight. Our friend was amazed that R was looking at him in the eyes! We were too. I hope this continues.

The construction on the hill behind the house appears to be partially completed. The part we can see is a road. It leads to a big clearing that has been flattened. We have no idea what they are doing. But at least the bulldozers are not moving dirt around every day at this point.
I watched a young buck come through the backyard yesterday. I was happy to see that the deer haven't been competely frightened away. Though I was thinking about the fact that I'd like to have a garden - and deer and gardens are not necessarily a good idea together. Garden + tall fence + deer walking through my yard should be okay though.
