Anyone else stunned by the fact that it's already March? Not that I'm complaining. The daffodils are up... and done blooming. The crocuses were in February. Ummm, it's pretty much spring here. It still shocks me how early it comes here in Louisiana. It could still snow where we used to live.

The only bad part of spring here is that there is a major amount of tree pollen. Yellow pollen that you can see on everything. And my body doesn't care for tree pollen. Every year I say, I'm going to start taking antihistamine before the tree pollen comes. And every year, the tree pollen comes and I realize that I'm still allergic to it, and it takes a week of antihistamine before I feel better. Not fair.

R can say "Bird". He said bird spontaneously yesterday when he saw birds through the window. So much fun to listen to him. Insurance hassles continue but apparently they are going to start covering therapy now. The only real hassle is whether we can get an exemption to be considered "in-network" since they have NO in-network providers. On the other hand, I'll believe that we have coverage when I SEE it. KWIM?

Nina will babysit tonight for the first time ever. It's a church event (appreciation dinner for the elementary and preschool Sunday School teachers), and she will be paired with an older teen in the room she's assigned to. She has been waiting to be called for a gig ever since she went through the babysitting training that is required for these things, and is totally psyched to be making money for playing with kids.

I need to get baking here since I'm taking a dessert for the church event. I haven't even decided what I'm making, but I have lots of ingredients. Hmm. I love to bake.

Nina had to write a poetry booklet and I was delighted to see all the different types of poetry there are. I'd forgotten, if I ever knew about, cinquains and tankas. I've been inspired to have fun with it again. Anyway, she wrote a very poignant poem about having a brother with autism. It made me stop and think about how this affects the siblings. There may be a blog post there sometime. Meanwhile, I'll have to ask her if I can post a copy of it when we get the poetry booklet back from her teacher.

R got a bean bag for his birthday. He pulled it out of the box and stared at it, obviously wondering what it was. We showed him how to sit on it, and he was then delighted. He picks it up and moves it to whatever room he wants to sit in. Too absolutely cute. The grandparents were especially excited to hear that he loves it. It's hard to figure out what to get him. We still haven't had his birthday cake though (I know, such sad/bad parents!). But it's actually been nice - we've been opening one present per day and he's been having a great time with each present. We won't be opening anything today or tomorrow since K and Mac will be camping, but on Sunday I will have made cake and we will open the last two presents.
The home of Quick Takes is here.
