Oops. A whole week went by. It's been spring break here and we've slept a bit, been sick a bit (me), been shopping a bit, etc. We have played a whole lot of Wii. Mac and I discovered that when you find all the purple coins, you get to start the whole game over again, but with Luigi instead of Mario. So we've been playing with Luigi. We finally got tired of Super Mario Galaxy today, and played some Spryo instead. The kids like that I play with them. I like that I play with them too.

Nina had her eye appointment today. She is nearsighted in one eye, her left. The other eye still has perfect vision. We made the decision to try a contact. One contact. She is almost 13 and it's the best way to give her even vision, so we're going to give it a whirl. She did well learning to put it in and take it out. Today she got to wear it for 4 1/2 hours, and tomorrow is a bit longer, etc. Monday, she can wear it for most of the day/evening. Which is good because...

She and I are leaving on Monday to go on a week long trip with her gifted class. We're touring through much of Southern Louisiana - New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, etc. I'm a parent chaperone and I'm really looking forward to this time with her, and yes, time away from here. So I will not be posting much next week!

I did my spring/summer clothes shopping today. I usually spread it out, so it was hard to spend so much money on myself at once. But I'm pretty happy with my purchases. It was especially hard to spend the money though I had set it aside, because we spent a lot of money this week between the clothes, the contacts/vision appointment, and another big purchase.

The big purchase was our brand new dryer! I am in love with my quiet lovely beautiful appliance that dries so easily and wow, it's nice to have. Of course, now my washer looks ancient next to it... but I'm sure that it will get replaced some day. Hopefully not soon!

I could not kick the virus that I got from R a couple of weeks ago. My throat kept being red and raw, and then yesterday I woke up with the weirdest feeling in my mouth/throat. My uvula was SWOLLEN and huge. It freaked me out and I went to the doctor. I'm on steroids and antihistamines now. Apparently, it's related to the tonsillitis and allergies and my body just being completely out of tune with health. It was a relief to have it shrink some again!
I admit to being a bit scared when I woke up yesterday. It was hard to swallow, and I had a momentary fear that it was strep. I was actually relieved to see an entirely different type of problem! After my horrid experience with strep in March 2006 (several posts on the whole saga in the archives), I am diligent to get checked at the least sign of strep, and make sure that I never have a repeat episode like that one. This winter/spring has been the most difficult one for us, health wise, since then, and it's still a lot better than that was!

We're looking forward to a quiet weekend. I'm cleaning house, doing laundry, and getting ready to go on the trip and then have my parents visit when I come back. I'm looking forward to seeing them - it's been a while, not since Christmas! It's not the most convenient time to have them since I won't be able to get food, etc., until I come back, but this way they can go to Mac and Nina's piano recital. I'm thrilled that they will get to enjoy that with us.
Happy last weekend of April!
