As I said yesterday, Mac is now 16. Scary thought. He doesn't have a license yet. Two problems: the motor vehicles place closes pretty early, and Mac often has things after school. I haven't figured out how we're going to manage to get it while school is in session! I know of friends who have taken their kids out of school to go get their license. I really don't want to do that, so I'm trying to figure out an alternative.

Budgeting is horrid. Especially when you're looking at the numbers and even after cutting everything, you realize you can make it, but there will be nothing that is not essential to living in the budget. We have to put a minimum of $1500/month aside to have enough for barely surviving the months we may not get paid anything (K is paid on a 9 month basis, and tries to get research grants that provide summer work and money. With the economy in the state it is, it's looking as if we will not get ANY summer money next year.). And we want to get Nina braces, pay down our debt (car payments), and more. The solution to that problem? Get more money. Since I don't think robbing a bank is an acceptable solution, the alternative is to get a job and make more money. So I applied yesterday to be a substitute teacher. My name will be on the next list issued to the schools in our parish. I'll write more about this decision soon.

Of course, this job won't give me any money unless I get called to substitute. So I'm praying for work. And that it will work out for the family. Again, more soon. My thoughts are all jumbled up and it's too much for a quick takes!

Par-tay tomorrow night at my place for the 16 year old! In fact, it's his first co-ed party in many years. A few girls and guys are coming over for pizza, Wii, foosball, and games. Yes, poker. I need to go buy the "prizes" - you can cash your chips in for chips, candy, and more. No actual money will be used at any time. The teen version of the infamous "treat bags" - so to speak.

I need to go to the store today and buy pillows for the bed upstairs. I purchased king size shams and some throw pillows, so the bed is kind of a seating area. We put Mac's old bed (which was mine before that, and my mother's before me!) in the bonus room for a guest bed.

I started this quick takes this morning. It's now 11 p.m. The day was far busier than I thought it would be. I am very tired right now, after working in the concession stand at the football game. I had a good time, but it was fairly constant.

I need to make a cake tonight or in the morning. There is some cleaning left to be done too. And I have to figure out how many pizzas we're going to need for 10 teenagers. I'm not controlling the party itself - they can figure out what to do with everything. It's going to be interesting, that's for sure.
There is a cross country meet in the morning, par-tay in the evening, and a church potluck following the 2nd service. Yikes. It's going to be a fun, but way too busy weekend. Good night.
