I am getting better, but this fever thing is definitely keeping me home. In a way it's a blessing, as I've been forced to rest. Since I've been burning both ends of the candle for way too long, this is a good thing.

Mac is gone this weekend. He left yesterday after school, and will be home in the wee hours Saturday night - or is that Sunday morning? I'm betting that he's still asleep at the hotel since they don't have to be at the tourney until 11:30. I wish I was asleep. But somebody's alarm clock was still set to go off this morning. Not mine. Somebody who isn't home. I need to read the manual on his clock so I can learn to shut down the alarm tonight, or we'll have a repeat tomorrow morning.

He has an alarm clock-radio-ipod speaker dock. Apparently it usually goes off and his morning playlist starts playing gentle lovely wake up music. When the ipod isn't there (because it's with him - long bus ride, so he took it to listen/watch movies), it's a horrid beeping noise. And it gets louder if you don't shut it off. Ugh.

The bad part of being home sick is that I keep watching too much television. I haven't been on the computer all that much. My recliner or the sofa have been keeping me comfy. That fact alone tells how much I don't feel well, since I usually love to spend extra time on the computer. Home all day, nobody here, nobody competing for the use of the computer - and I haven't been on it very much at all?

I finally had to make myself switch from a news channel to something else, as I couldn't take another minute of the scene in Haiti. In less than a minute, so many lives taken, so many people hurt, so many lives changed forever. It makes you think. Then it makes you reach for your wallet. We have to decide where we're donating. But the worst thing to see is how hard it is to get any aid into the area. An island, with mountains, devastated by an earthquake - the scenario for getting aid in couldn't be much worse.

So I keep watching silly shows instead. The house buying shows have been driving me nuts, especially if I was watching something from Haiti before the other show. "This is so dated, so old..." as I look at a perfectly fine home, that just isn't the latest. There was only one show that didn't drive me crazy like that. The young couple were thrilled to be getting a home - though they did have to negotiate a few things that were truly important. Not just, oh, I'd have to get new carpet. Sigh. We are so spoiled here in the United States.
Then I look at myself in a mirror and think - hmmm, wasn't I just complaining about our tub? and don't I hope to renovate our master bathroom someday? Need to look at the rod in my own eye, don't I?

Perspective. It's all about perspective, isn't it? We are so blessed. We have a home. We have food. We have clothing. And most of all, we have an awesome God. I need to remember that lesson more.
