Am I the only one tickled to realize that in October, we'll have the date 10-10-10? A perfect ten! I enjoy seeing fun numbers, for some reason.

There are parishes that have taken a "too cold for school" day. Not ours though. I have to say that part of me hoped that they would, and part of me laughed my head off. It's below freezing, yes... very very cold for this area... even record setting in a few places, but it's just normal winter temps for upNorth. We don't have ice or snow even. But I am sitting here thinking about getting into something warmer and maybe just wrapping up in blankets and laying on the sofa all day.

Because I get to stay home all day today! Or at least until I have to pick up the teens from school. I won't just sit around though. I was going to take the ornaments down today but I forgot to ask K to get the ornament boxes out of the storage area. I could get them myself, but our storage is in the attic side of the 2nd floor, and it isn't insulated, so it's very cold right now. (To get into the attic, there is a door from the bonus room. We keep that door locked to keep R and the cats out of the insulation, since there is not floor in the entire side.) That's not a problem I foresaw when I decided that I'd start packing away Christmas today. I do love the lights though. But I don't want Christmas to still be here in February, LOL, so I will have to get it done by the end of this weekend.

It's so sweet to watch Caspian follow Nina from room to room. He loves to sleep on pet beds - or maybe that's because the floors are so cold right now, and we own three of them that we weren't using because the other cats don't care for them. Last night was the first night we left him free to roam if he wanted to, and he spent the entire night on her bed.
And I have to say that she is living up to her part of the bargain. She has to help with the litter boxes (we have two big ones next to each other in the laundry room closet), since three cats are harder to deal with. And yes, we have exclusively indoor cats. We decided long ago not to have indoor/outdoor cats.

I had an interesting subbing job yesterday, as a paraprofessional with the teacher I'm hoping R will have next year in elementary school. It was very interesting to see what she does in this special needs classroom, and left me feeling better about him being placed with her. But he won't be placed with her unless he is potty trained. There is a separate classroom for those children who need more attention like that.

And on that front, we've made some minor but crucial progress - he is willing to try to have a bowel movement on the toilet! Not much success yet, but he is at least trying, and that's a major piece of the puzzle. We're still tinkering with figuring out how to fix some of the other pieces of the puzzle. But I'm feeling a bit hopeful about the chances of getting him trained by summer. Wouldn't that be incredibly wonderful? Yes, it would!

I'm going to take a nap, I think. Still feeling off, and not sure what is up with this. Hopefully I just need some more rest. I stayed up too late last night between watching the game (great 4th quarter) and waiting for Mac to be done submitting an essay. I love that they have to turn in essays to an anti-plagerism service before they turn in the assignment. It is making them more aware of how they write, and keeping them more honest. He didn't get home until after 6 p.m. from practice, and had other homework too, but was in bed by 12:30 or so. Pretty good considering today is the last day of the quarter. On to part two of the year!
